Marketing for security companies

Marketing for security companies that wins contracts, not just calls

Security buyers want proof before they trust you with their site, their people or their stock. Yet most security websites look and sound the same. We help security companies stand out, get found for the contracts they want, and prove they can be trusted.

The problem

Why do security companies struggle to stand out online?

Because most security websites use the same shields, the same stock photos of officers and the same promises of peace of mind. Buyers cannot tell one company from the next, so they fall back on price or on whoever they already know. The companies that win online make their proof impossible to miss.

Every company looks the same

Dark colours, padlock icons and stock images of officers in high-vis. Nothing that tells a buyer why you, rather than the next result.

Proof hidden or missing

Licensing, accreditations, response times and sector experience buried in a footer or not mentioned at all.

Traffic from the wrong people

Much of a security website's traffic is often job seekers looking for security work. It inflates the numbers and hides how few buyers are finding you.

In security, trust is the product. Your marketing has to prove it before the first call.

Our experience

Do we understand how security is bought?

We understand the buyers. Security is usually bought by facilities managers, property managers and operations teams, and those are the people our founder spent seven years marketing to, in-house across cleaning, facilities management and property.

In facilities management, security sits alongside cleaning as one of the services the same buyer procures, often on the same contract. We know what those buyers check before they shortlist a supplier, how tenders and site surveys work, and how long the decision can take.

We have not run a guarding company, and we will not pretend to have. What we bring is how commercial buyers of site services think, and how to market to them.

How buyers choose

How do businesses choose a security company?

Security is often bought under pressure, but contracts are still won on trust and proof.

  1. The trigger

    Something happens

A break-in, a new site, a contract ending, an event, or a provider who keeps missing shifts.

  2. Search and shortlist

    Who can cover us?

Google, the map pack, AI answers and referrals. Buyers check services, coverage, licensing and accreditations.

  3. Survey and quote

Do they know what they are doing?

A fast response, a proper site survey and a clear, sensible quote.

  4. Decision

    Can we trust them?

References, case studies, response times and confidence the officers will turn up and be good.

Services

Which marketing services do security companies need?

Each service does a different job. Most security companies combine two or three, run by one senior marketer against one plan.

Rank for the services and areas you want contracts in, rather than for jobs or generic terms.

  • A page for each service: guarding, keyholding, CCTV, patrols, events

From our audits

What marketing mistakes do security companies make most often?

Most security websites undersell companies that are genuinely good at what they do.

An anonymised security company website audit

Licensing and accreditations buried

SIA Approved Contractor status, NSI or SSAIB certification and BS 7858 vetting mentioned once, or not at all.

The fix: Show what you hold, and explain what it means for the buyer, on every service page.

Every service on one page

Guarding, keyholding, alarm response, CCTV and events squeezed together, so none of them ranks.

The fix: A dedicated page for each service you want contracts for.

Stock photos of officers

Images buyers have seen on a dozen other websites, which undermine trust rather than build it.

The fix: Real photos of your team, your control room and your vehicles.

Careers and sales mixed together

Job seekers and buyers landing on the same pages, and reports that count both as success.

The fix: A separate careers section, and reporting on buyer enquiries only.

No route for urgent enquiries

Buyers needing cover tonight find a contact form and a promise to reply within 48 hours.

The fix: A visible 24/7 number and a quick quote form for urgent requests.

No proof by sector

Claims about construction, retail or corporate work with no case study behind them.

The fix: Short, specific examples for each sector, used with permission.

What to rank for

Which searches should a security company rank for?

The best searches show a buyer who needs cover, in a place, for a type of site.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about marketing for security companies

How do security companies get more contracts?

Rank for the services and areas you want work in, show your licensing and accreditations clearly, and make it easy to request a site survey or get urgent cover. Real photos, sector case studies and fast responses do more to win contracts than broad advertising.

Does SEO work for security companies?

Yes, when it targets buyer searches such as a service plus an area, rather than broad terms that mostly attract job seekers. A page for each service and genuine local pages usually make the biggest difference.

Should a security company use Google Ads?

Often, yes, particularly for urgent and short-notice searches where buyers need cover quickly. Google Ads can win those enquiries within days, and call tracking shows which services and areas are worth the spend.

Why does branding matter for a security company?

Because most security companies look alike, and buyers use appearance as a shortcut for trust. A clear position and a distinctive, professional identity make you easier to remember and harder to compare purely on price.

How do we stop job seekers skewing our website traffic?

Give careers their own clearly labelled section, and measure buyer enquiries rather than total visits. Recruitment traffic is useful for hiring, but it should not be mistaken for marketing results.

Do you have experience in the security sector?

We know the buyers rather than the guarding itself. Our founder spent seven years in-house across cleaning, facilities management and property, marketing to the facilities and property managers who also buy security.
